Mummy Dates Project 2017 #3

goodbye

Hello Everybody and welcome back to another Mummy Dates Project Post.
Last week we took a trip to the National Railway Museum in York.
Leland absolutely loves anything to do with trains so it was kind of a big deal for him to be there. He spent a lot of time telling me all about the trains 'buffers' and 'couplings'. I of course had no idea what he was talking about but he had a great time trying to explain what they were.

Being a massive fan of Thomas and Friends, Leland was especially excited when he found a working replica of Rocket, aka to Leland as Stephen from his King of the Railway dvd.

Blurry Leland couldn't keep still because of his excitement

Leland also began shouting 'Mummy look it's Stafford!' with excitement and in true Mummy style, I didn't have the foggiest idea what he was talking about and replied with the usual, 'Oh, wow.' Until upon closer inspection, the bloody train was in fact named Stafford! Clever little toad =)

Next we moved on to The Flying Scotsman Story section of the museum much to Leland's delight. He loves the Flying Scotsman on Thomas and The Great Race Dvd so to see him toddling about and reeling off facts was amazing to see. He managed to catch the attention of a worker there who was impressed by his knowledge of the Flying Scotsman and questioned his age. When I told the man he was only 3 he was astounded and bent down to Leland's level and told him a little secret which made the whole experience worth it.
The Flying Scotsman was in the works that day and we could go up to the balcony and watch the men working on it.

We made our way towards the works and walked along the balcony where we found the Flying Scotsman. Leland was so excited as we watched the men working on it from the above. The look on his little face is one that I will never forget. It was as though he was meeting a celebrity.

All in all, we had a fantastic afternoon at the museum. It is a brilliant place for train enthusiasts of any age.
The sheer size of some of the trains astounds me, I didn't realise just how big some of them were.
Leland had a fantastic time topped right off by seeing the real Flying Scotsman.
We're hoping to return during half term as they are actually doing rides out on the Flying Scotsman! I can only imagine his excitement if we can get chance to go!
