Two years ago, my new years resolution was to overcome my fear of giving blood, so on the 29th April 2015, I signed up to become a donor.

My first appointment was booked in for 29th May and I was terrified.

I took along one of my best friends to my appointment to talk to me and take my mind off things.

On arrival, I handed in my questionnaire, poured myself a pint of water and sat down to read the information guide I was given.

Next I was called into a cubicle where a nurse asked several more questions and took a sample of my blood to check that my iron levels were alright.

From there I was sent to a different waiting area and waited to be called.

After a short wait, my name was called and I got seated.
The first attempt to draw blood was a complete failure as the vein in my left arm collapsed so we gave the right arm a try.

The donation itself only takes about 15-20 minutes and apart from the needle being put in and taken out, it it completely pain free.
After you've donated, you are provided with a cup of tea or coffee and biscuits!

All in all, giving blood is an amazing thing to do. They keep you updated with where your blood has gone to by text message and on birthdays and Christmas you get cute little emails from them too =)

To sign up to donate blood go to this link and find out where you local donation centre is.

In 2015 as well as giving blood, a few of my friends and family signed up to our local hospices colour run.

We did the 5k course in just under an hour, we walked a lot of the way and just had a laugh and a giggle.

This was a fun afternoon and a great way of getting out of the house and raising money for an important cause.

In April 2016 I took part in a DECHOX for the British Heart Foundation. No chocolate for a whole month!!

I am pleased to say that throughout the month of April, I didn't touch a single piece of chocolate.
The first few weeks were a nightmare, but after a while, the craving went away.
In the months after I found myself not wanting to eat chocolate as much. I guess the Dechox helped me to realise that I don't need it as much as I thought I did.

Sticking with British Heart Foundation, I have also taken part in two My Marathon events this year. One in May and one in September.

My marathon is 26.2 miles designed to be completed at your own pace over a four week period.
I ran one mile per night and completed it in 26 days, the last day I ran the extra point 2 miles to complete.

To this day, I am still trying my best to make a difference and doing things for charity.

Me and my son have put together two shoe-boxes this year, one for a children's charity and one for the soldiers charity.
My next appointment to give blood is on 7th December.
I will still continue to sign up and raise money for as many charities as I can along with the general donations of old clothes and toys that my family no longer use or need.

Thank you for reading.
